Derby councillor Harvey Jennings denies assault charge

The ex-leader of Derby City Council has pleaded not guilty to a charge of assault.

Harvey Jennings of Sandringham Drive, Derby, was charged in May over an alleged incident involving his ex-wife.

Mr Jennings, 49, pleaded not guilty at Nottingham Magistrates' Court and a trial date was set for the court for 17 November.

The Conservative councillor was suspended by his party following the assault charge.

Conservative Philip Hickson has now taken on the role of council leader.
