Three suspected arson attacks in Derby investigated

Police are investigating three suspected arson attacks which happened overnight in Derby.

Firefighters were called to the site of the old Sherwood Foresters pub on St Thomas Road at 23:40 BST on Wednesday.

The building, which suffered fire and smoke damage, is being renovated and made into a Sikh temple. It followed two earlier suspicious fires.

A Derbyshire Police spokeswoman said at this time the fires were not being linked to Tuesday's violence in Derby.

Firefighters and police were called to a fire at 10 metre by 20 metre building on Maple Drive in Chellaston at about 22:40 BST.

They also attended a van fire on Grampion Way in Sinfin just after midnight.

Derbyshire Fire and Rescue said they also called police to a wheelie bin fire on Durham Street in Ilkeston but officers could not confirm whether this was another suspected arson.

Anyone with information about the fires has been asked to contact police.

On Tuesday, more than 20 cars and a shop were damaged in a series of disturbances overnight in Derby.
