Man assaulted in burglary at Rutland Arms in Baslow

Burglars punched a man and locked him and his girlfriend in a room after breaking into a pub in Derbyshire.

Four men entered the Rutland Arms in Baslow at 02:00 BST on Wednesday and attacked the man before demanding money from him and his girlfriend.

The couple were locked in a room by the burglars before they left, but later escaped and called police.

The man suffered cuts, bruises and swelling to his head. His girlfriend was uninjured.

The group were all white and wore sports clothing and balaclavas.

Police said it was not known if the burglars stole anything, but they were investigating whether the incident was linked to an attempted burglary at the Eyre Arms in Calver Sough earlier that night.
