Derby rail firm Interfleet bought by Canadian company

One of Derby's biggest rail companies has been acquired by a Canadian firm.

Interfleet Technology, which specializes in rolling stock, railway systems and management, has been taken over by SNC-Lavalin.

The Derby-based firm employs about 300 people at its headquarters at Pride Park.

David Rollin, from Interfleet, said: "The acquisition represents the best way to assure the future growth and development of the company."

The company confirmed no jobs were at risk at its Derby operation.

Jim Burke, executive vice president of SNC-Lavalin Group, said: "Interfleet's specialized expertise, complementary geographic presence and reputation for innovation are a strong addition to SNC-Lavalin's service offering, particularly given the great growth potential in the rail sector worldwide."
