Lake Como missing woman: Search for Derby traveller

Police and mountain rescue teams are searching for a Derby woman who has gone missing in Italy, the Foreign Office has confirmed.

Glenys Sylvia Turner, 46, was staying in Griante, in the Lake Como area, when she went missing 10 days ago.

It is feared she may have fallen from a steep path above Griante, according to local media reports.

Ms Turner's remaining clothes and documents are reported to have been left in her hotel room.

A friend, Elaine Mann, said the news had come as a shock: "I am devastated because she is not the sort to go missing.

"She travels a lot, she stays in youth hostels, she talks to people, she is very friendly.

"I am hoping and praying that she is safe - perhaps she has injured herself."

A Foreign Office spokeswoman said: "The Italian police are investigating the disappearance of a British national in the area of Lake Como in Italy.

"We are providing consular assistance to the family in the UK and are liaising closely with the Italian authorities."
