Police divers have begun to search for a Derby woman missing in Italy.

Glenys Turner, 46, was staying in Griante, in the Lake Como area, when hotel staff reported her missing 11 days ago.

Searches have been made of mountain paths in the area and now underwater teams have been brought in to examine the lake.

A friends of Ms Turner has said that, despite family problems, she was looking forward to her holiday.

Ms Turner is a keen walker and has often gone away by herself, her friends have indicated.

Consular support

Personal belongings, including her passport, are reported to have been found in her hotel room.

Her long-standing friend Maureen Underwood said Ms Turner had been in a positive mood despite the death of her father and her mother's illness.

"I saw her the week before she went and it was the first time she had been to Italy.

"She seemed happy - but she was always happy, she was never down for long."

The Foreign Office has said it is in touch with both Ms Turner's family and the Italian authorities
