Three charged over Derbyshire fuel thefts

Three people have been charged following a crackdown on fuel thefts in Derby, Erewash and South Derbyshire.

Between March and October, there were 435 fuel thefts in the area, 87 more than the same period in 2010.

Over the past three weeks officers have given training to petrol station staff on deterring thieves.

Two men and a woman have been charged with leaving a petrol station without paying.

Another man was arrested on suspicion of stealing diesel and going equipped. He has been released on bail pending further inquiries.

Officers held training sessions for staff at 10 petrol stations across the area, advising them on lighting and CCTV, how to spot potential drive-off cases and how to be a good witness, should a case come to court.
