The former leader of Derby City Council has had his membership of the Conservative Party reinstated following a court case.

Harvey Jennings, of Sandringham Drive, Derby, was suspended by the party in May when charged with assault.

Last week at Nottingham Magistrates' Court all charges against him were dropped, but he was bound over to keep the peace for six months.

His whip was restored at a local party meeting.

The current leader of the Conservative-controlled council, Philip Hickson, had earlier said it was up to the party to decide who they wanted as leader.
