Arrest over Derby Christmas lights theft

A man has been arrested in connection with the theft of Derby's Christmas lights.

Thieves broke into a compound at Markeaton Park overnight on 9 November, taking the lights and a cherrypicker.

The 28-year-old, who lives in the city, was arrested on suspicion of burglary and stealing a vehicle and released on bail.

The cherrypicker was recovered at the junction of Leaper Street and Watson Street a few days after the theft.

A switch-on ceremony went ahead after equipment was sourced from elsewhere.
