BBC Radio Derby's annual carol service is to take place at Derby Cathedral on 20 December.

The free event will be presented by Aleena Naylor with the service hosted by the Dean of Derby, the Very Reverend Dr John Davies.

There are no tickets for the event but admission is on a first-come-first-served basis. Those attending must be in their seats by 19:00 GMT.

The service, being recorded for broadcast, will start at 19:30 GMT.

It will be preceded by a short technical rehearsal.

A variety of BBC Radio Derby presenters will deliver readings and poems during the service and the Cathedral Voluntary Choir will lead the carols.

There will also be performances from two musical guests - Arcadia, from Repton, and Rosie Meek and The Open Road, recently formed by versatile Derby musician Phil Baggaley.

The cathedral's coffee shop will be open until 18:00 GMT and mulled wine, mince pies, tea and coffee will be on sale in the cathedral itself until 19:00 GMT.

There will be a collection at the end of the evening, which will be split equally to support the upkeep of the cathedral and BBC Children In Need Appeal.

You can hear the recording of the carol service on BBC Radio Derby at 17:00 GMT on Christmas Eve or at 12:00 GMT on Christmas Day.
