Police clamp down on Derby's teenage drinkers

Police have seized six fake IDs and 10 teenagers have been banned from pubs and clubs in Derby as part of a clampdown on underage drinking.

Officers have been visiting licensed premises in the city in the run-up to Christmas to prevent underage teenagers from drinking.

Anyone caught using fake ID could be banned from participating venues until six months after their 18th birthday.

Derbyshire Police said the ban should put young people off breaking the law.

"We think the possibility of being banned and that ban remaining in place for six months after they turn 18, will be a definite deterrent to youngsters," said Det Claudia Musson.

"While their friends are all out celebrating turning 18, they won't be able to."
