Crime officers will be attending the scene of a fire at a Derbyshire nursery after it was thought to have been started deliberately.

Fire crews were called to The Cottage Day nursery in Mansfield Road, Heanor, just after 05:00 GMT.

A small storage building, containing children's toys, at the rear of the premises was on fire. No-one was hurt.

Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service believe the fire was "malicious". Police also attended the scene.

Debbie Bull, 49, the managing director of the nursery, said: "I didn't know whether I was going to find a building, sort of, still alight, I didn't know whether I was going to find a building at all.

"It is literally confined to the outside. It turned out to be in the outside toy store, it isn't used at all."

Ms Bull added that The Cottage Day nursery would be open as usual on Monday.
