Royal Derby Hospital's severance scheme to cut budget
Hospital staff in Derby are being asked if they want to resign as part of a trust's plans to save £21m over the next financial year.
The Derby Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which runs the Royal Derby Hospital, has begun a voluntary severance scheme.
A trust spokesman said it needed to cut £21.7m in the 2012/13 budget and £14m of savings have been identified.
He said each application would be judged on the impact on patient care.
The trust, which also runs the London Road Community Hospital, said it was not a redundancy scheme as it was "entirely voluntary from the employee's perspective".
Severance payments will vary from three months' pay for staff with six years' continuous service to up to 12 months' pay for staff with 24 years.
Karen Martin, director of workforce management, said: "It is no secret that, like the vast majority of the NHS, we will continue to face financial challenges over the coming years. Like many other NHS trusts before us, we are launching a Mutually Agreed Resignation Scheme.
"The overriding consideration with applications is the requirement to sustain quality patient care and ensure we can continue to meet service need."
Staff have until 9 March to submit applications.
