Buxton bogus advert scam prompts warning

A scam where bogus advertising is sold to small businesses in Derbyshire has prompted a warning from police.

Officers in Buxton said they had received reports of a man going into six firms and offering space in various publications.

A fish and chip shop and a pub paid £40 for adverts while the others declined the offer.

Police have appealed for businesses to be aware and for any other similar incidents to be reported.

The suspected was described as white, around 6ft (1.83m) tall, of large build, with short hair and with a Liverpool accent.
