Fake road painters target Derbyshire schools and churches

Schools, churches, GP surgeries and businesses in Derbyshire have been targeted by a group of bogus road painters asking for money.

Derbyshire County Council said the conmen have been arriving at venues and businesses across the county with a fake letter from the authority.

They then ask for money for special paint for road markings outside the property.

The scam was reported in Ashbourne, Matlock, Alfreton, Ripley and Duffield.

Deputy leader Simon Spencer said: "We want to warn people that we would never call door to door asking for money or ask anyone else to do so on our behalf.

"It is a scam and people should not hand over any money to these conmen."
