A convict who is serving a life sentence has been recaptured after absconding from an open prison in Derbyshire.

Robert Patterson, 44, was convicted at Chester Crown Court in 1999 on two counts of wounding with intent.

Dominic Lavery, 23, who is serving an indeterminate sentence for robbery, also left the jail on Tuesday.

Derbyshire Police said both men had been caught by officers near to the prison on Tuesday evening.

Lavery was sentenced at Bolton Crown Court in 2008.
