New £125k cycle path to be built in Chesterfield

A new cycle path costing £125,000 will be created alongside the A61 in Chesterfield, Derbyshire.

The 370m (1,213 ft) path is being installed near the Whittington Moor roundabout as part of the Chesterfield cycle network.

The long-term project will link shopping areas, hospitals, schools and main residential areas in the town.

The work is due to start on 9 July and is expected to take 12 weeks to complete.

During that time the A61 dual carriageway will be reduced to one lane for about five weeks.

Councillor Simon Spencer, deputy leader of Derbyshire County Council, said: "We're committed to making it easier and safer for people to bike around Derbyshire."
