Creswell Crags closed after woman's body found

A Derbyshire tourist spot has been closed to the public after a woman was found dead.

The woman, thought to be a 54-year-old from Nottinghamshire, was found in a river at Creswell Crags shortly before 18:30 BST on Tuesday.

Derbyshire Constabulary said it was keeping an "open mind" about the cause of death and a post-mortem examination would be carried out.

Anyone who visited the crags on Tuesday is asked to contact police.

The attraction is made up of a series of limestone caves occupied between 50,000 and 10,000 years ago.

Det Ch Insp Andy Sproson said: "Unfortunately we have had to ask for the crags to be closed to the public while we continue our enquiries.

"We apologise for any inconvenience to tourists and local people."
