A man has died after the motorbike he was riding hit a tree on a trail used by walkers and cyclists in Derbyshire, police have said.

Emergency services were called to Merlin Way, near to the Quarry Hill industrial estate, Ilkeston, in the early hours of Saturday.

The man was taken to Queen's Medical Centre, where he later died.

Two men, aged 24 and 20, who were arrested at the scene on suspicion of assault have been bailed.

Although police are no longer treating the death as suspicious, the force is investigating the circumstances of the man's death and how he came to be on the motorbike.

A 30-year-old man, arrested on Saturday afternoon, is still being questioned by police.
