Woman sexually assaulted near Derby car park

A woman was sexually assaulted as she walked along a footpath in Derby, police said.

The 51-year-old was attacked early on Saturday, close to the car park between Eley Walk and Gerard Street.

Derbyshire Police described her attacker as Asian and in his mid 40s. He was wearing dark coloured jeans and a black top.

The force said the woman was approached by a man who assaulted her before running off towards Burton Road.

Anyone with information is urged to get in touch.

    A firm which revived the Derby tradition of pyclets has secured funding for a major expansion.


    The Derby Pyclet Company runs a shop in the Market Hall and will be using the money to buy another bakery and several mobile units.

    It's through a grant of nearly £30,000 from the city's Enterprise Growth Fund.

    Witness appeal to crash 13:21: BBC Radio Derby

    Police are appealing for witnesses after a truck drove into a house in Spondon this morning.

    The flat-bed truck had been stolen from a waste management company in Staffordshire and police think the collision on Nottingham Road was deliberate because of an ongoing argument.

    Derby County fans heading to the home game with Barnsley are being asked to donate food and toiletries to some of those in need in the city.

    Head coach Steve McClaren said: "It's great news that Derby County is part of such a worthwhile cause and I would encourage our supporters to show their support, even if it is by bringing just one item."

    The National Union of Teachers' conference has voted for a strike that could close schools in England and Wales in the week beginning 23 June.

    Driver hunted by police 12:01:

    The driver of a flat-bed truck who "deliberately" crashed into a house in Derby in the early hours is being hunted by police.

    The semi-detached house was "significantly damaged" but no-one was injured, Derbyshire Police said.

    Neighbour Kay Nyaka said he felt "a large tremor" when the lorry struck the house at about 04:50 BST.

    The team which delivers the safety message for Staffordshire Fire and Rescue is being expanded.

    It gives advice to homes and businesses and feeds back concerns and ideas to the service.

    Director of the prevent and protect programme Dean Stephens says it now needs new volunteers who'll be given full training.

    Derby County fans heading to the iPro Stadium for the game with Barnsley this afternoon are being asked to donate food and toiletries to some of those in need in the city.

    Volunteers from churches in Derby are collecting for food banks and are looking for any non-perishable items like tinned and dried goods.

    Truck 'crashed deliberately' 10:21: BBC Radio Derby

    Police say the truck that went into a house in Derby this morning was done so deliberately.

    Nottingham Road in Spondon is closed in both directions after the vehicle hit the semi-detached property between Willowcroft Road and Cambridge Street.

    Police say no-one was injured, but the building has serious structural damage.

    Police say the building has major structural damage to it, but no-one was injured.

    House fire investigation 08:45: BBC Radio Derby

    A joint investigation is due to get under way into a house fire in Derby last night.

    Police and Fire crews were called to a semi-detached property on Shamrock Street at about 23:30. It's believed the building has been empty for about 18 months. Fire crews left the scene just after 02:15.

    Lorry crash closes road 08:31:

    The A6005 Nottingham Road in Spondon is closed and traffic is building up in both directions between the A6096 Willowcroft Road junction and the Cambridge Street junction because of a lorry colliding with a building.

    BBC Travel News says police are directing traffic.
