Three people have been arrested following the death of a baby in Devon, police have revealed.

The body of the eight-month-old boy was discovered at a house in Kingsteignton on 20 July.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesman said two women, aged 20 and 54, and a 25-year-old man, were arrested on suspicion of child neglect.

They have been released on bail until 30 September. The cause of the baby's death has not yet been confirmed.

Joint investigation

The three were questioned at Torquay Police Station.

Torbay and South Devon District Coroner's office said an inquest had been opened and adjourned and a post-mortem examination carried out at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London.

An investigation is being carried out by police, the council and other agencies into the baby's death.

In a statement, Devon County Council said: "Devon County Council is part of a joint investigation into the death of a young child, which includes police and health agencies.

"While this investigation is ongoing, we are unable to comment any further."
