Thousands watch Devon charity group's castle bonfire

Thousands of people have watched a giant castle-shaped bonfire in north Devon organised by a local fundraising group for charities.

The 100ft (30m) wide and 50ft (15m) high fire on Torrington Common on Saturday night was organised by the Great Torrington Cavaliers.

It took two years to plan and construct and also marked the 40th anniversary of the group's first bonfire.

Organisers said up to 8,000 people attended the event.

The group's last bonfire in 2005 saw a 100ft-long half-size mock-up of HMS Victory built to mark the Battle of Trafalgar's 200th anniversary. It also took two years to build.
