Three men have appeared in court accused of torturing a cat.

The three, aged 44, 16 and 17 appeared at South Devon Magistrates Court after mobile phone footage of the incident was given to Teignmouth RSPCA.

The footage allegedly shows the cat being put into a microwave and tumble drier for ten seconds, and then into a freezer before being dunked in water.

The three are charged with causing unnecessary suffering to the cat. The case was adjourned.

The three defendants have been given time to seek legal advice before entering pleas at a later hearing.

The tabby is currently being cared for in an RSPCA shelter.
