Figures reveal sixth drop in Devon's jobless claimants

The number of people out of work and claiming benefit in Devon has seen another slight fall.

There were 8,208 claimants in August - down 61 from July, according to the latest figures from the Office of National Statistics.

The total accounts for 1.8% of the county's population, and remains much lower than the national average of 3.6% for all of the UK.

It is the sixth consecutive month there has been a fall in the county.

Nationally, the claimant count increased by 2,300 in August to 1.47m, the first increase since January.
