Devon Council recognised for improving riding access

A local authority in Devon is to be presented with two British Horse Society (BHS) awards for helping to open up and improve equestrian routes.

The announcement comes after Devon County Council made a bridlepath near Kentisbeare more accessible by surfacing a 2km (1.2 mile) stretch.

The work is just one of a number of initiatives by the council to boost the areas where people can horse ride.

The council will be given the awards at a ceremony in London on Thursday.

Devon County Councillor Philip Sanders, who is set to receive the awards, said: "This bridleway has always been popular with walkers despite being muddy almost year round, so this new surface will be a great improvement for walkers and horse riders.

"It is pleasing that this scheme and others have been recognised by the British Horse Society."
