Major gritting operation in Devon as snow is forecast

A major gritting operation is being carried out on Devon's roads as the icy weather continues, with snow flurries forecast to hit the county on Tuesday.

The Met Office has advised that some areas of high ground, including Exmoor, could see as much as 5cm (2ins).

Devon County Council said the road surface temperature was expected to drop to -7C (19F).

It said gritters would be covering 1,700 miles of the road network on Monday evening and overnight.
