Barnstaple pub brawl woman jailed for glass blinding

A drunken woman who blinded another woman in one eye with a glass has been jailed.

Yasmin Davie, 22, of Belmont Road, Barnstaple, Devon, wounded Carol Hynd following an argument in a local pub in January.

Exeter Crown Court was shown CCTV footage which showed Davie throwing a glass at Miss Hynd.

Davie, who had admitted wounding at an earlier hearing, was sentenced to two years in prison.

The court was told Davie's victim had a life-changing injury to her left eye.

'Moment of madness'

She will need need further operations and her eye may not be saved.

At the time of the glassing, Davie was on bail for other offences and under a community order for assaulting a neighbour.

Defence lawyer David Sapiecha said his client was distressed at her action, which she had described as "a moment of madness".

Mr Sapiecha said it was a "nasty injury" which happened in less than two seconds.

Sentencing Davie, Recorder Ron Belben said the victim's life had "been changed probably for ever".

"Miss Hynd cannot work, drive and locks her doors out of fear," he added.
