Devon unemployment figures top 10,000

The number of unemployed people in Devon went over the 10,000 mark in February, the Office for National Statistics says.

The total number of people out of work and claiming benefit in the county increased to 10,159, up from 9,659 the month before.

That is a rate of 2.2%. However, it is still below the equivalent UK rate, which is currently 3.8%.

Some of the rise was believed to be down to routine seasonal factors.
