Families must leave Devon pre-fabricated homes

Up to 40 families on a Devon housing estate are still waiting to be rehoused before demolition of their pre-fabricated homes starts in July.

Thirty-nine properties on the Forches estate in Barnstaple are being demolished and replaced with 60 homes.

Owners North Devon Homes admits some residents could end up in council paid B&Bs if they cannot find accommodation.

Tenants are not being given the option of moving back in when the £7m project is completed.

'Real struggle'

North Devon Council has appointed an officer to help the company find accommodation for the affected residents.

Many are concerned they will not be able to afford to move into the private housing sector.

One resident, James Sowden, said: "It's going to be a real struggle for everyone."

North Devon Homes chief executive Martyn Gimber told BBC Radio Devon: "We made it very clear to these families when they moved in that this was temporary accommodation but we've been working hard to try to find homes for the residents affected."
