People in Devon to help decide record office future

A public consultation is to be held into how people use the Devon Record Offices branches in Exeter and Barnstaple.

Devon County Council said spending cuts meant savings needed to be made in all areas.

It is asking people and special interest organisations how and when they use the offices.

The consultation, which begins on Monday, runs for all of April.

It will also ask people for ideas on how the service could be run more efficiently.

Suggestions already received included paying for online access to records, merging the two offices into one in Exeter and seeking commercial sponsorship for the service, the council said.
