Two men arrested by police in Devon investigating the possible abuse of Belinda Day who died in 1989 have been charged with sexual assault offences.

A 57-year-old from Budleigh Salterton has been charged with indecent assault and gross indecency against two girls under 16 in the 1980s, police said.

A 59-year-old man from Exmouth has been charged with gross indecency with a girl under 16 in the 1970s and 1980s.

Both men are due to appear before Exeter Magistrates' Court on Friday.

The arrests follow the exhumation of the body of Ms Day in Budleigh Salterton five weeks ago.

The 27-year-old mother-of-three, who grew up in nearby Exmouth and moved to Exeter when she married, was found dead at the bottom of cliffs at Budleigh Salterton in March 1989. A coroner later recorded a verdict of suicide.

Her body was disinterred in April for DNA evidence, as police believe she was raped and abused before killing herself.
