A flag designed by children whose parents and carers are in the armed forces has been dedicated to a Plymouth support group.

Children from HMS Heroes designed the flag which will be used to promote the group's work.

Plymouth City Council co-ordinates the group. It said out of 32,000 school pupils in the city about 2,000 had parents or carers in the armed forces.

The group was formed in 2010 and supports about 30 children.

The council said in some schools in Plymouth more than 30% of pupils had parents or carers in the armed forces.

The group provides help and advice for service children in the area.

Each month issues affecting forces families are discussed by the group.

Council leader Vivien Pengelly said: "HMS Heroes really are putting the needs of forces children in the minds of community leaders and politicians."

The flag was dedicated to the group at a service at HMS Drake.
