A fire in Plymouth has damaged two nightclubs in the city.

The fire brigade was called to the building on Union Street at about 0700 BST.

Firefighters said the 45 Degrees nightclub had been damaged by the fire and Temptations nightclub situated on the upper floor had been smoke-logged.

No-one was believed to be injured in the blaze. Firefighters said an investigation into the cause of the fire had begun.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service group manager Rick Selley said: "The building was well sealed and smoke was first seen coming out of the back of the building in Colin Campbell Court.

"There was significant smoke-logged on the ground floor."
