A man has appeared in court charged with murdering his partner who was found dead after a road crash.

John Doyle, 54, of Merton Mill, Merton, Devon, appeared before magistrates in Exeter accused of killing Sian Rees.

The body of the solicitor, who worked in Okehampton, was found in a van following a crash on the A386 near Hatherleigh, in west Devon, on Friday.

Mr Doyle was remanded in custody and is due to appear at Plymouth Crown Court on Tuesday.

He was arrested following the crash at about 1000 BST last Friday, which involved a Ford Fiesta van he was driving.

Devon and Cornwall Police said they were following reports that a van had hit a hedge.
