A386 Weare Giffard crash leaves car driver dead

A man has died in a two-vehicle collision in north Devon.

The man was driving a Citroen Saxo when it was in a head-on collision with a Ford people carrier on the A386 at Weare Giffard at about 1115 BST.

The local man, who was in his 40s and the car's sole occupant, was pronounced dead at the scene between Bideford and Torrington, police said.

Four out of six people in the Ford, which was registered to a Kent address, were taken to hospital.

Of the four, two rear seat passengers in the people carrier were airlifted to hospital in Plymouth. Their condition is not known.

The road was closed for a police investigation.
