Devon Rural Archive sets up base at Shilstone estate

A charity which specialises in the history of Devon's buildings has been created at a former county farm.

The Devon Rural Archive (DRA), at Shilstone near Modbury, is staffed by architectural archaeologists.

It was created by local entrepreneur Sebastian Fenwick as part of a restoration of the 200-acre estate.

The DRA is offering house owners the chance to find out more about the history of their homes on 28 July at a free consultation with its experts.

Broadcaster Lucinda Lambton, patron of the DRA, said: "The DRA is a county-wide resource of terrific importance.

"It will surely teach us all that beneath our feet lie treasures of historic and architectural significance."
