Devon man arrested over Skiing Europe fraud claims

A 70-year-old man has been arrested by police investigating alleged fraud at Devon-based Skiing Europe.

Hundreds of students were affected after a number of school trips were cancelled by the Colyton-based firm or schools were forced to cancel.

Police, who started an inquiry in March, searched a property in Colyton.

Skiing Europe has in the past blamed schools for being behind in their payments for some of the cancellations, claims which were denied.

Schools in Devon, London, Berkshire, Kent, Surrey, Essex and Hertfordshire were among those affected earlier this year.

Det Con Martin Battershill said: "This is a complex investigation involving assistance from forces around the country as well as other agencies.

"We are working to ascertain whether criminal offences have been committed in the running of Skiing Europe."
