A two-year-old boy is in a stable condition in hospital after being hit by a bus in Devon on Sunday.

He was involved in a collision with a single-decker bus in Exeter at about 11:00 BST.

Police said the boy, who had a serious head injury following the incident in Sidwell Street, was being treated at Frenchay Hospital in Bristol.

A police spokesman said the boy, who has not been named, was in a "stable condition".

A spokeswoman for bus firm Stagecoach said: "Our immediate concerns are for the welfare of the child who has been injured and our thoughts continue to be with him and his family.

"We are assisting the police with their investigation and we will also be carrying out our own investigation into the incident."
