Cockwood and Dawlish path on Devon's Exe Estuary opens

A 1.5km (0.9 mile) long foot and cycle path, that has cost £889,500, has opened along the Exe Estuary.

Devon County Council said the cost reflected the amount of landscaping, archaeological and ecological work that had taken place at the site.

The path from Cockwood to Dawlish Warren is connected to a trail to Powderham Church to the north, and to Dawlish to the south.

The scheme was approved by the council's cabinet in April 2010.

John Clatworthy, the councillor for Dawlish, said the path would improve safety as users previously had to walk on a section of road.

The authority said it expected more tourists to use the route now that there was a new path.
