Barn blaze near Dartmoor Prison in Devon

Crews from five stations have been dealing with a barn fire, metres from Dartmoor Prison, the fire service has said.

The blaze was 19 feet (6m) from the prison's outer wall, said Okehampton station commander, Ian Donovan.

The barn, in Princetown, contained 350 bales of hay and 80 of straw, he added.

The fire started at about 01:00 BST. The cause was being investigated and there were no reported injuries, Mr Donovan said.

Fire crews would remain at the scene for most of the day, removing the contents of the barn, he added.

Crews from Princetown, Yelverton, Crownhill, Moretonhampstead and Tavistock attended the blaze, Devon and Somerset Fire Rescue Service said.
