Hindus bid to build a temple in Devon

Hindus living in the south west have a charity to build a temple in Exeter.

Currently the nearest official place of worship is Bristol but supporters of the project need to raise £12m for the Devon-based temple.

In late September hundreds of Hindus travelled from across the region to take part in the annual Rathayatra festival in Plymouth.

The Hindu community in Plymouth admit it will take many years to raise the money.

Ian Johnson, from the Devon Faith and Belief Forum, said: "We are a multi-cultural society.

"If people's faith base is strong they then feel more confident and able to contribute to society and make our society balanced and wholesome."
