Churchman Christopher Jarvis jailed on child sex images

A child protection officer for the Roman Catholic Church has been jailed for a year after using his work laptop to collect indecent images of children.

Christopher Jarvis, 49, was employed by the Diocese of Plymouth in Devon as a safeguarding co-ordinator in 2002.

But he was also compiling images of children, Plymouth Crown Court heard.

Jarvis, of Penrose Road, Plymouth, admitted 12 counts of possessing, making and distributing indecent images of children.

The Roman Catholic Church has ordered a widespread review into its safeguarding children procedures in the South West.

It followed the arrest in March of Jarvis who was employed by the Devon diocese to investigate sex abuse allegations.
