Six-mile fuel spill 'caused crash' at Whiddon Down

A fuel spill nearly six miles long (10km) is believed to have caused a car to crash on the A382 in Devon.

The spill forced the closure of a section of the road after the crash at Whiddon Down, near Okehampton just before 10:00 GMT.

Fire crews said it had resulted in "treacherous" conditions on the road.

Devon and Cornwall Police said the spill is believed to have been responsible for an accident involving a Ford Ka.

No-one was injured, but the road was closed for several hours while police, fire and highways personnel cleared the fuel.

A police spokesman said the cause of the spillage has not yet been identified.
