Devon thyroid cancer singer Ellie Williams starts album
A Devon singer who was diagnosed with thyroid cancer is returning to the recording studio to compile her second album.
Ellie Williams, 31, from Exeter, was diagnosed in May and had an operation on her throat.
She said it was after the operation that she feared her singing career could be over. Ms Williams has since undergone internal radiotherapy.
She hopes to release her second album in the spring.
Ms Williams is waiting for test results to show whether the cancer has spread to other parts of her body.
During the operation in June, she had her thyroid gland removed.
"Before [the operation] I was praying I wasn't going to lose my life," she said.
"Once I had the operation I then thought what if I can't sing?"
Ms Williams said singing had become more important to her and during her recovery she had spent a lot of time writing songs.
"My voice is now back to normal... I hope to release my second album in the spring, a positive start to the new year," she said.
Her debut album was released in November 2009.
