Woman arrested after fatal crash in Plymouth

A woman has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving following a collision on the A38 in Plymouth earlier.

The crash, involving a motorcyclist and a Vauxhall Meriva, happened at about 07:00 GMT between Weston Mill and Crown Hill.

The motorcyclist, who was in his 40s, died after the collision.

The 57-year-old woman from the Plymouth area is in custody while police make further inquiries.

During the rush hour, traffic was queuing from Saltash in Cornwall over the Tamar Bridge into Devon.

The road, which was closed for several hours, reopened just before 15:00 GMT.

The accident also resulted in major delays on the Torpoint Ferry as drivers attempted to avoid the gridlock on the roads.
