Gritters out in Devon after ice alert

Gritters were out across parts of Devon overnight after the county was put on ice alert.

Temperatures were down to 0C (32F) in places and forecasters said the odd wintry shower was possible.

Gritters were out around Barnstaple just before midnight. They were also out on Tuesday morning around Exmoor, Devon Highways bosses said.

Barnstaple's Freedom Centre shelter was open for rough sleepers for the first time this winter, its managers said.
