A man has died after collapsing at a dockyard in Plymouth.

He was working on dockside equipment at Devonport when he collapsed at about 15:10 GMT on Sunday, Devon and Cornwall Police said.

The man, who was 53 and said to be local to the area, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Enquiries are being carried out into the cause of his death and the coroner and the Health and Safety Executive have been informed, police said.

Ministry of Defence Police, who oversee Royal Navy areas of the dockyard, said the man was thought to be a contracted worker who had been working in a vessel refitting area.
