An investigation has begun after a fire in a terraced house in Paignton on Tuesday night.

More than 30 firefighters from Torquay and Paignton tackled the blaze at the two-storey property with a converted loft in Hayes Gardens.

A spokesperson from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said the first floor and loft of the residential property were well alight.

A family of six was inside at the time, but there are no reports of injuries.

The alarm was raised by members of the public just before 20:00 GMT.

Devon and Somerset Station manager Andy Rowse said: "The whole family were there. They heard a loud bang. On our way to the incident we could see from a distance the roof was already well alight."
