Torridge recycling contract awarded to South Molton

A Devon company has been awarded a £2.45m dry recycling contract.

South Molton Recycle Limited (SMR) has been awarded the seven year contract by Torridge District Council.

The authority said the deal meant the quality of the service would not change, but claimed it will save the council £280,000 a year.

The firm has collected dry recycling for the district for 19 years. The new contract will start in July.

Ricky McCormack, the authority's head of operational services, said, "We have awarded the contract to SMR as its tender included significant savings and service improvement options.

"It offered residents the best overall package."
