Exeter man Thomas Durkin in court over baby death

A 24-year-old man has appeared in court charged with the manslaughter of a nine-month-old baby boy in Devon.

Thomas Durkin, of Exeter, appeared at Plymouth Magistrates' Court where he indicated a plea of not guilty.

The unnamed baby, from Hemyock, near Honiton, died on 14 June 2011 after being admitted to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital earlier that day.

Mr Durkin will appear at Plymouth Crown Court on 18 June to stand trial. He was granted conditional bail.

As part of his conditional bail Mr Durkin must not have any unsupervised contact with any child under the age of 17.
